My decision to purchase a high-quality wig has been on the back burner for the past couple of months. The term high quality refers to a virgin, or human hair wig*, versus one made of synthetic fibers.

My protective style of choice was crochet braids since going natural, and occasionally I’ll switch it up between appointments and throw on a wig out of convenience.

The problem I had with my synthetic wigs was that they became matted very quickly, and just dull in general, as well as being impossible to wash. The following are some of the benefits that I have so far experienced from my first high quality wig that I purchased last month after conducting some research:

1. It’s an investment.

There are a variety of high-quality toupees that range anywhere from 200 to over $300, depending on the type and length, etc, unlike other protective styles where you pay a low price for the hair, or synthetic wigs, or even the installation, if you are getting braids or a weave. When you purchase a high-quality wig, you only have to pay this price once. If the wig* is cared for properly, it can last as long as two years.

2. It’s washable

Since the wigs are made from human hair, they may be treated as such – meaning they may be cleaned! I was so excited about this. I hated it when my synthetic wigs became oily and limp because that meant it was almost time to throw them away. You can wash wigs of high quality just like you would your natural hair, and they will look as good as new.

3. Realistic appearance

A human hair wig will naturally look more realistic and natural than a synthetic hair wig because the hair is real, not synthetic. Curling human hair wigs* is just like curling your own hair, whereas applying heat to synthetic hair will cause it to be burnt.

4. Save money

I love the fact that I no longer have to pay the high cost of purchasing hair for a sew in PLUS the installation fee to get a high quality wig. I can install the wig by myself since it does not require glue, and it only takes a few seconds.

5. Better hair days no more

If you wake up and realize your twist out isn’t completely dry and need a quick backup plan after a long night, these wigs* are a great choice.
