What is the pharmacy?
According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, pharmacy is
“The practice of making, prescribing, dispensing, or buying prescriptions.”
This definition clearly indicates that pharmacy is a separate entity from pharmacy technicians and nursing personnel. For many years, pharmacists have been in charge of dispensing medication but over time, pharmacy departments began to merge with other departments, especially those that deal with medical services.
Today, there are several schools that can provide pharmacy technician training in addition to a four year degree in pharmacy. Pharmacy technicians usually combine basic courses in chemistry, biology, computer skills and marketing. With pharmacy technician certification, you can work in various pharmacies or even as a pharmacy manager. There are several career options after being certified as a pharmacy technician. These include pharmacy instructors, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy consultants/bookkeepers, pharmacy technicians/claims representatives and pharmacy supervisors.
If you are planning to open a pharmacy , you will need to learn how to sell prescription drugs and understand the business aspect of the drug business. As a pharmacy manager, you will be responsible for the management and the organization of a pharmacy. Your main role might be in the area of pharmacy marketing, in which you will be responsible for creating and implementing promotional campaigns. You must be prepared to answer customer questions about the drugs they buy and the prices they pay.
Another job that a pharmacy technician can get after getting his/her pharmacy technician certification is as a pharmacy technician teacher. You can teach students about the different types of drugs and how they are used. A pharmacy teacher must be knowledgeable about the drug and the pharmacy’s processes and methods of using them. If you want to become a pharmacy instructor, you will need to get your pharmacy technician license. Pharmacy instructors must have a Master’s degree in pharmacy administration and pharmacy teaching.
There are also courses available after you get your pharmacy technician certification. These courses will train you on subjects such as pharmaceutical law and pharmacy safety. You can also choose to take courses related to the clinical pharmacists. Clinical pharmacists are concerned with the preparation, administration, and dispensation of medications.
These are only some of the pharmacy job opportunities that you can work into after you get your pharmacy technician certification. The field of pharmacy is a growing one. With technology constantly changing and advancing, you can expect to work in several pharmacy jobs. You can also opt to open your own pharmacy.
